feel the confidence.

What if you could feel completely confident that you're getting everything you need to thrive?

It's an experience plant-based eaters know all too well:

A colleague or friend, after seeing your lunch, begins to pepper you with questions about protein, iron, evolution, or the latest diet trend.

Then they'll share a scary quote from an Instagram doctor or an article that features new research on deficiencies in a plant-based diet.

No matter how good you feel about your choices, it's only natural for those questions to creep into the back of your mind…

Sowing tiny seeds of doubt that you may not be making the right choice for your long-term health.

Instead of trying to ignore the nagging concerns in the back of your mind…

A large, white question mark centered on a circular gray background.

It feels like I’m always tired recently, even when I’m sleeping well… could it be that I’m deficient in B12?

A grey circle with a white question mark in the center, set against a light blue background.

It seems like I’ve been sick a lot this past year… is my diet trashing my immune system?

A sky-blue circle contains a white question mark in the center.

What if that article is right… and 10 years from now I discover my plant-based diet really has led to deficiencies?

A light blue circle with a white question mark in the center.

I’m so cloudy-headed right now. Is it a lack of sleep or a lack of nutrients?

Instead of trying to ignore the nagging concerns in the back of your mind…

What if you could feel completely confident that you're getting everything you need to thrive?

Optimizing your nutrition with hard-to-get nutrients means:

A person smiling and leaning forward outdoors, wearing a sleeveless red top and wireless earbuds. The sky is clear and blue in the background.

Waking up each morning with a clear, rested mind.

A man with a beard jogging outdoors in an urban setting, wearing a gray t-shirt and a smartwatch. Buildings and trees are blurred in the background, suggesting motion.

Ditching the afternoon slump and replacing it with focused productivity.

A joyful scene of a man lifting a child onto his shoulders outdoors. The child, smiling broadly, holds the mans hands, enjoying the playful moment. They are surrounded by greenery under a clear blue sky.

Establishing an elevated healthspan for years to come.

A woman in a white shirt smiles as she stretches her arms and spins outdoors in a sunlit park. Trees and grass form the background, creating a peaceful and joyful atmosphere.

Science-backed nutrient solutions to help you feel your best today and set you up for a vibrant life.

Do Plant-Based Eaters Need A Multi (When Their Food is Already Healthy)?

As a plant-based eater, you’re already following the healthiest and most responsible diet on earth, enjoying an abundance of most nutrients with every meal and supporting foundational long-term health. But, if you rely on whole foods alone, chances are you’re still missing a few key nutrients — and there’s (almost) nothing you can do about it.

A lack of complete nutrition can, at best, make you function at less than your peak. At worst, it can lead to serious health problems down the line.

But don’t take our word for it…

A person holding a bowl of healthy food, including avocado, cherry tomatoes, chickpeas, spinach, arugula, broccoli, quinoa, mushrooms, and carrots. The person is wearing a cozy beige sweater.

Look at the Statistics

  • Up to 86.5% of adult and elderly vegetarians are at risk for Vitamin B12 deficiency. That affects their energy and brain function.

  • More than 41% of Americans are deficient in Vitamin D,  which is crucial for bone and immune health, as well as many other systems. Several health experts believe that D should also be taken in combination with Vitamin K2, to ensure the safe transport of calcium in the bloodstream*.

  • Despite having access to iodized salt, mild-to-moderate iodine deficiency is a public health concern in 30+ countries. Iodine is key for the metabolism.

  • Due to plant compounds that reduce absorption, vegetarians may need 50% more zinc than omnivores. Low zinc levels can impair immune system function.

  • Most vegans get their omega-3s from nuts, seeds, and oils. These contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which converts to DHA and EPA in the body, but at a very poor rate. Research shows that only 8% of dietary ALA is made into EPA in healthy young men, and 4% or less converts to DHA.

So what’s going on here? Why can’t plant-based eating alone cover all bases?

Here are 3 good reasons:

Hands gently pouring soil, surrounded by a circular frame. A large blue number 1 is in the lower left corner. The background shows a dry, earthy surface.

Your food is weaker than it used to be.

A United Nations’ study reports that 33% of the world’s soil resources are degraded — largely due to industrial agriculture. Poor soil quality negatively impacts the nutrition in our food, as well as its production and sustainability.

A person eating noodles with chopsticks from a white takeout carton, smiling. The person is wearing a white shirt, and there is a large blue number 2 in the bottom left corner of the image.

You eat the same stuff.

Think about how many of the same foods and meals you eat week after week. A review in Molecular Metabolism revealed that 75% of the world’s food comes from only 12 plants and five animal species. That’s not enough variety to ensure optimal nutrition.

A variety of healthy foods including a halved avocado, bowls of pumpkin seeds and flaxseeds, a cracked coconut, almonds, and chia seeds arranged on a light blue surface. A large number 3 is in the bottom left corner.

Your body can’t absorb some nutrients, and can’t access others.

Plant-based sources of vitamin B12 and Vitamin D aren’t as bioavailable as their animal counterparts, and omega-3 fatty acids like DHA and EPA are nearly impossible to obtain in adequate amounts from a standard plant-based diet.

So what’s the solution?

In some cases, eating more of specific foods rich in the hard-to-get nutrients might help, since that would add more of those nutrients into your diet. But that's not always practical (you'd have to be munching seaweed all day every day to get enough DHA and EPA omega-3s, for example — and then you'd overdose on sodium and iodine).

You could also add individual supplements to your diet to fill in the gaps, but then you’d have to micromanage each one to make sure you’re getting enough, and in the right amounts. Plus, the cost of those individual bottles would add up quickly.

A person sitting on a tiled floor holds a container with black capsules. A bag is nearby with a pouch labeled Essential displaying nutrition facts. The person wears blue pants, a white shirt, and gray shoes.

So how about taking a typical multivitamin?

Well, now you’re overcorrecting the problem, paying for a bunch of nutrients you’re already getting from your plant-based diet. You’ll end up peeing out the excess. Talk about money down the drain… And you’re still not getting those omega-3s.

A person with long dark hair is smiling and holding a black jar labeled COMPLEMENT. The text EMPOWERED BY appears vertically on the right side of the image.

Try Complement Essential (and Feel the Difference)

Now there’s an all-in-one multinutrient supplement that contains only the essential nutrition proven to be lacking in most plant-based diets, and nothing extra.

A person picks up a capsule from a white dish. Nearby are a brown box, a blue and white Essential supplement packet, and a black cylindrical container, all on a white surface. The words Complement Essential are displayed above.

Complement Essential is:

  • Vitamin B12
  • Vitamin D3
  • Vitamin K2
  • Iodine
  • Magnesium
  • Selenium
  • Zinc
  • DHA / EPA Omega-3s

It's the ultimate complement to healthy, plant-based eating, providing an insurance policy for optimal nutrition.

A Plant-Based Supplement, Rooted in Trust

Complement Essential is formulated, produced, and third-party tested right here in the USA. Unlike most vitamin brands “white-labeling” products produced by another company, at Complement, we do it all ourselves. From sourcing to shipping, we’re with you every step of the way.

Ingredients highlights.

Vitamin K2

Microscopic view of red blood cells, appearing as round, dark red disks clustered closely together. The image is enclosed in a circular frame, highlighting the texture and uniform shape of each cell.
50 mcg

K2 isn't available in plant-based foods except for natto, a Japanese fermented soy product (and it's not in tempeh), so those eating Western diets need to supplement in order to get it.

Benefits:

Helps with heart and bone health.*

The smart part:

Vitamin K2 is the natural partner to Vitamin D3, acting as a regulator for increased calcium uptake and promoting good bone health. Complement Essential™ includes 50mcg of Vitamin K2 as menaquinone-7 (the natural and most absorbable form of K2) per daily serving, sourced from bacteria.

Sourced from:

USA

Vitamin D3

A circular image showing a close-up of a substance with bubbly, uneven surfaces resembling cells. Overlayed is a faint white chemical structure with hexagonal and linear components, labeled with a few chemical symbols.
50 mcg

We love nature and spending time outdoors. But we also wear clothing, and most of us work inside during daylight hours. That means our natural ability to soak up the sun's rays is limited, and as a result, many of us — regardless of dietary pattern — might be deficient in Vitamin D

Benefits:

Supports bone health and immunity.*

The smart part:

While many vegan multivitamins contain the less effective D2 form, Complement Essential™ provides 2,000 IU of the only truly vegan D3 available (Vitashine, sourced from lichen) per daily serving.

Sourced from:

UK

DHA/EPA OMEGA-3S

Green circular image with a white chemical structure diagram of a molecule, featuring a hexagonal ring with an OH group attached. The background has a textured, leafy appearance.
450 mg

Vegan food sources of Omega-3s like flax and chia seeds don’t provide two essential types — namely DHA and EPA. Seeds provide ALA Omega-3s, and are an amazing addition to your plate, but most people do not convert ALA into DHA and EPA.

Benefits:

Supports brain and cholesterol health, nervous system regulation, and improved energy levels.*

The smart part:

Complement Essential includes 300mg of DHA and 150mg of EPA per daily serving, sustainably sourced from algae grown under controlled conditions and tested for purity.

USA

iodine

A circular image showing a green leafy background with a white chemical structure overlayed, possibly representing a compound.
450 mg

Worldwide, iodine deficiency affects two billion people and is the leading preventable cause of intellectual and developmental disabilities. In plant foods, iodine is found inconsistently and depends on the iodine content of the soil. It’s possible to get enough iodine if you regularly eat seaweed (multiple times a week), or use iodized salt, but this is one essential nutrient that shouldn’t be overlooked whether you’re vegan or not.

Benefits:

Supports healthy thyroid function, which regulates the metabolism.*

The smart part:

Complement Essential includes 150mcg of iodine per daily serving, sustainably sourced from kelp.

Sourced from:

CANADA

Magnesium

A granular black powder is shown with a chemical structure overlay. The image has a circular frame, and the chemical diagram indicates molecular bonds and compositions.
200 mg

Soil depletion is a major cause of Magnesium deficiency in the overall population, and affects vegans as well as non-vegans.

Benefits:

Supports your metabolism, energy levels, mood, and heart health.*

The smart part:

Magnesium works to increase the efficiency of Iodine and helps regulate the thyroid function. Complement Essential includes 200mg of Magnesium per daily serving, in the form of magnesium citrate, the form that’s easiest absorbed by the body.

Sourced from:

USA

Selenium

A circular image of brown and white seeds with a superimposed chemical structure, labeled with elements such as Se, H2N, OH, and O.
50 mcg

Our depleted soil may mean that plant foods, in general, do not contain enough Selenium (and that’s even true for some Brazil nuts).

Benefits:

Supports brain health, mood changes, and heart health.*

The smart part:

Similar to Magnesium, Selenium works in tandem with Iodine to promote healthy thyroid function and metabolism, as well as the removal of heavy metals from the body. Complement Essential includes 50mcg of Selenium per daily serving, in the naturally occuring, plant-sourced form of L-selenomethionine.

Sourced from:

INDIA

Zinc

A grayscale image showing a textured, rough surface with a chemical structure diagram overlayed. The chemical structure features a zinc atom connected to two organic molecules, each containing nitrogen and oxygen atoms.
8 mg

Legumes and seeds are the best natural sources on a plant-based diets, but vegans who avoid those food groups, as well as those who are worried about its bioavailability can benefit from the addition of Zinc with Complement Essential.

Benefits:

Supports the skin and nails, healthy growth and eyesight, wound healing, and a well-functioning immune system.*

The smart part:

Complement Essential includes 8mg of Zinc per daily serving, a zinc picolinate, the form easiest for the body to absorb and utilize.

Sourced from:

INDIA

Vitamin B12

A close-up view of a circular patch of deep purple velvet fabric, showing its soft texture and rich color.
300 mcg

Soil bacteria produce Vitamin B12 — which is essential for humans in order to protect neutral health and reduce inflammation. But modern agriculture and other human behaviors decimate these bacterial colonies that produce B12.

Benefits:

Supports red blood cell formation, neurological function, & DNA synthesis.*

The smart part:

Complement Essential contains 300mcg of B12 per daily serving, combining methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, the easiest forms for the body to absorb and use.

WHY DARK ALGAE OIL IS THE BEST SOURCE OF OMEGA-3S

Omega-3 fatty acids — including docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) — are critical for the proper structure and function of cell membranes. They help keep your brain, heart, and immune system healthy*. Most people don’t get enough omega-3s, especially plant-based eaters, and they mistakenly believe that fish and fish oil are the only sources.

Good thing that’s not true, because there aren’t enough fish in the ocean to provide the world’s population with the DHA and EPA it needs.

Health organizations recommend getting 250–2,000mg of DHA and EPA, combined, daily for optimal health, but scientists have calculated that, based on an intake of just 500mg daily, it would take...

1.2 million more tons of DHA and EPA than what is currently available to serve the world’s population — and fish only supply 15% of the global demand.

Black jar filled with Complement Essential vegan multivitamin capsules.

But hold on a minute…

Fish get their omega-3s by eating algae, so why not just go straight to the source? Algae grows quickly and doesn’t contribute to overfishing, so it’s more sustainable than harvesting fish. Algae oil is a potent source of omega-3s, and research has shown that algae oil production puts less strain on the ecosystem than that of fish oil — and will continue to, even with increased demand.

The unprocessed, unrefined algae oil used in Complement Essential contains additional beneficial compounds, such as carotenoids, omega-7 fats, and chlorophyll, which gives it a dark green color that appears nearly black.

Complement Essential Nutrition Facts

Is Complement Essential vegan?

Yes, Complement Essential is 100% vegan and cruelty-free. (And so are we.) All of the ingredients are sourced from plants, bacteria, minerals or algae.

Does Complement Essential contain soy, nuts, gluten, GMO's or artificial ingredients?

Complement Essential DOES NOT CONTAIN: Soy, nuts, yeast, gluten, MSG, genetically modified organisms, artificial colors or flavors, fish, dairy, eggs or other animal-sourced ingredients.

Who is behind Complement?

We’re a team of nutrition-first individuals with unique health stories and backgrounds. Through sourcing the highest quality ingredients and fully transparent production, we leave absolutely nothing on the table when it comes to developing essential, premium plant-based nutrition products.

Why did you make the capsules black?

The unprocessed and unrefined oil used in Complement Essential naturally contains other beneficial compounds including carotenoids, Omega-7, and Chlorophyll — which gives it a dark green color that appears nearly black.

What does Complement Essential taste like?

Being a capsule, Complement Essential should be swallowed without holding it in the mouth, so there shouldn't be a specific taste. To enhance the experience, however, we include a peppermint tab in each pouch that provides a beautiful mint essence to each capsule.

What is the suggested use?

For adults and children over 12, take 3 vegan capsules daily, preferably with a meal. Store in a cool, dark place. Please recycle the glass bottle after use.

Do I need to take 1 capsule 3 times a day?

Not at all! There shouldn't be any difference between taking all three capsules with a single meal, or spacing them throughout the day.

The one thing that is somewhat important is taking them with a meal that contains at least some amount of fat, as this will help with the absorption of the nutrients.

Can my children take Complement Essential?

We formulated Complement Essential for adults and kids over 12. If you wish to give it to younger children, please consult with your doctor or pediatrician and show them the full ingredients list to determine its suitability and dose. Also, please keep in mind that while most adults and older children have no issues swallowing the capsules, they might be a bit big for younger children. Have a look at Complement spray for an alternative that most of our team members use for their toddlers.

Can I take Complement Essential together with my other supplements or multivitamin?

Complement Essential, together with a whole-food, plant-based diet, will provide you with the nutrients you need to thrive. Formulated for optimal nutrient intake, Complement Essential is safe and non-toxic when taken as directed. If you take another supplement that contains any of the nutrients found in Complement Essential, you may exceed the tolerable upper intake for that nutrient. Speak with your doctor if you have any questions about how Complement Essential works with any other supplements or medications you are taking.
