Chocolate Blueberry Turmeric Protein Smoothie

This superfood bonanza of a smoothie is packed with blueberries, greens, bananas, chocolate, and the star ingredient...

Turmeric.

Turmeric is a healthy food easy to ignore because of its potent flavor.

But curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, has powerful anti-inflammatory effects, great for both your short- and long-term health.

This smoothie recipe not only balances out the turmeric flavor, but packs in other key nutrients from the fruit and greens, and a boost of protein from Complement Protein.

Chocolate Blueberry Turmeric Protein Smoothie

 

Ingredients:

    • 1-2 cups blueberries (or other berries of choice)
    • 3 cups (or more) of packed greens (spinach, lettuce, kale, or collards) TIP: when using kale or collards rip off the leafy part to use in the smoothie, and compost the ‘spine’)
    • 1 cm of fresh turmeric, or ½ tsp turmeric powder + a pinch of pepper for absorption
    • 2 -3 frozen or non-frozen bananas
    • 1½ cups plant milk
    • 1 tbsp of cacao or cocoa powder
    • Water (optional, if you want a more sip-able smoothie)
    • 1 serving of Complement Protein
    • Topping: 1 tbsp cacao nibs (optional)

 

Directions:

    1. Add everything except the cacao nibs to the blender. Start with the greens, turmeric and powder on the bottom, then top it with everything else.
    2. Blend! Pulse a few times, then slowly increase the speed to max and blend until smooth.
    3. Add water if you want a thinner consistency.
    4. Pour into your favorite jar and top with cacao nibs.
